Illuminati Congo is a Chicago-based hip hop and reggae outfit. With three albums under their belt and a decade of performing their unique style of dynamic hip hop, Illuminati Congo continues to innovate and revolutionize.
Jahn Da Baptist was immersed in the Chicago streets from an early age, while simultaneously cultivating his wonder of the mystical realms. By virtue Jahn’s lyrical content is one of the most expansive and diverse in all of hip hop, and he has become one of its most charismatic, captivating and kinetic performers. Jahn is the driving force of Illuminati Congo.
With a degree from the Rhode Island School of Design, Nic the Graduate has a wide ranging artistic background. From an early age Nic explored many instruments as well as analog and digital synthesis, engineering and production. Nic also excels as a DJ and musical ambassador in Chicago. Nic’s beats couple with Jahn’s bard like lyrics to form the power unit that is Illuminati Congo.
Illuminati Congo’s musical influences are classic reggae and classic rock, which feed the roots of synth-and- sampler driven hip hop and danceable, live band instrumentation. Their sound is reminiscent of artists such as Nas and Damian Marley with a hint of Gym Class Heroes. Instrumental solos and "dubs" are mixed throughout, giving the lyrics time to settle in and the rhythm to take hold. Riveting to the club seeker, and rift with launch pads for spiritual astral projection all at once, Illuminati Congo’s soundscapes are DNA-altering.
Illuminati Congo has been touring nationally and internationally for the past 5 years performing with reggae royalty, hip hop legends and Grammy Winners such as Lee “Scratch” Perry and Cee Knowledge the Doodlebug (Digable Planets), as well as Big youth, Anthony B, Jahdan Blakkamore (Major Lazer/Snoop Lion) and Lutan Fyah, KRS-One, Dead Prez, Del The Funky Homosapien, Shabazz Palaces and Freestyle Fellowship.
TORIN FROST:
Torin Frost is a F R E E S T Y L I S T from the Pacific Northwest who’s been improvising rhymes since the recess lines. He combines intricate lyricism, melodies, and story-telling through an array of musical genres, speaking expressions of the trees, the breeze, the birds, and the bees.
The self-proclaimed Lorax of the rap game improvises parts of every show in a seamless flow that curates an interactive tone. He has toured across the USA and performed in Canada, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Iceland.
From large festivals to intimate tea lounges, his bilingual flows can stretch seamlessly from vibrant salsa ensembles to smooth spoken word poetry. He helped form the band Reposado in 2016, playing local gigs and touring the country twice. He returned to his home in Seattle and formed the band Runes of Neptune a few years later, playing many NW festivals such as Hempfest and Barter Faire. After years of performing live, he is now working on his first solo mixtape, “Drip of the Iceberg,” scheduled to drop early 2022. His main goal is to discombobulate the system and grow our relationship with Mother Earth and the cosmos, one song at a time.
